The 2014 PDGA Amateur World Championships are over. I'm so thrilled to report that I succeeded in my goal and won my division which makes me: 2014 Advanced Senior Grandmaster World Champion.
This is the first time a champion was ever crowned in this division, and I'm thrilled about that as well as my name will forever stand as the very first champion in that division.
It was a great tournament, and I played well.
But this isn't over yet.
Now it's time to prepare for 2015!

99 Days to Worlds
I can hardly believe that in less than 100 days, I will be
in St. Paul, MN getting ready to compete in the 2014 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf
Championships! Two-thirds of the
preparation time is complete. These days
I’m lifting less weight, but playing a whole lot more disc golf.
On Wednesday I had the extreme blessing of being able to
play a round with Pro Disc Golfers Pam Reineke and Sandy Gast. What fun that was! They were so helpful and encouraging.
I think today when I go play, I’m going to focus on building
up speed, snap, and work on a flick.
Those three things should be enough to work on.

Missing the Course
Even though daylight savings time is back in force, my local disc golf park still is only open until 5 PM which means I can't play after work. So, I continue to lift and do some form of cardio each day but what I really pine for is the chance to simply PLAY disc golf.
I remember clearly last fall during the last days and weeks before the park began closing at 5, I was itching to be able to get to the gym after work and build some muscle. Now, I'm itching to get back to actual disc golf training. Interesting, isn't it? We always seem to want what we can't have. I'm finding that I'm just not a very patient person.
Last Sunday I played a round with the Blowin' Birdies. There was a huge event at Bill Frederick's Park and so we were limited to playing just the front nine of the T-2 course. There are several holes that are particularly difficult for me, those being hole 1 and hole 5. They are difficult because even with all my training, I still don't have a big arm, and those holes are particularly long par 4 holes.
Added to that, on Sunday there was a lot of wind. Of all the courses on at BFP, the front nine of T-2 is probably the best for throwing in the wind because there are a lot of trees which tend to diminish the effect of the wind. However, it also meant that when the wind got through the trees, it was especially erratic.
So, it was a good practice round for me, in preparation for the Orlando Open. That's the next tournament I plan to play. It turns out that I was the top woman finisher that day.....(ok, ok, I'll admit that there were only two of us...!) but I did do better than the much stronger, and younger woman who also played. So I was cheered by that.

A Blast in Sarasota - Part 2
The second round at the Sunshine State Shootout in Sarasota,
was the most difficult for me. The
course had a lot of trees which usually don’t bother me, but I had a hard time
finding the groove for throwing throw the trees. It was held at North Water Tower Park, which
was a great park, but one with lots of trees and narrow paths for the
disc.
Since I’d never seen the course before, it was a good
exercise for me to prepare for 2014 Worlds.
At my home course, there are plenty of trees on T-2, but I’ve learned
the best path to go. I still fumble the
throws from time to time, but I do know where I’d like to make the disc land. On a new course it isn’t always so obvious.
The final round of the Shootout was at Payne Park. This is an urban park in the heart of
downtown with rolling terrain, but few trees and even less water hazards. I think this was my most successful tournament
play ever. Danny caddied for me and he
helped me keep focus, place my disc well, and continue to play with
confidence. The course itself was a
fairly open course with few trees and few water hazards. The distance to each basket was manageable by
me and that helped me gain confidence as well.
I think I had more pars on this course than on any that I’ve ever played
in regulation play.
Up next is the Orlando Open the first weekend in May,
followed by the Women’s Global Event (WGE) the following weekend in Floral
city. This past weekend I practiced a
lot on my home course – one day I played with a local disc golf club. Having some actual competitive practice was
good as I had to deal with a couple of holes where I didn’t do so well, and
then had to refocus on getting back on track.
There was a tremendous amount of wind which comes into play when I’m
using my lighter weight discs.
Once again, I got a birdie during competition, and that was
definitely a confidence booster. I came
in fourth overall and got some payout for finishing well. I spent my winnings
on a mini, which will be a commemorative disc to be added to my display at
work.

A Blast in Sarasota – Part 1
What a terrific weekend I just had. Danny and I had signed up for the Sunshine
State Shootout in Sarasota a couple of months ago. Neither of us had ever played the courses
where the tournament was going to be, so the whole event was a new experience
for us.
We drove down to Sarasota on Friday night, getting there
well after dark so it was impossible to see the courses before we began
playing. On Saturday morning we got up
in plenty of time to get to the event.
Danny and I were on different courses, so I drove him to his course,
Water Tower Park, which was closer to the hotel than the course I began on at Lakeview Park.
When I arrived at the park and checked in, I took a little
while getting used to the course, and planning how I would throw some of the
holes. While the holes were relatively
short, there were several canals snaking through the course, plus it had a fair
amount of trees to navigate around. I
don’t know why, but when I think about shooting over water, I absolutely freak
out. It’s all about losing a disc – just
because I didn’t execute the throw properly.
So, after taking a brief look at the course I went back to
my car, opened my trunk and got rid of almost all the discs I had in my
bag. Instead, I filled my bag with other
discs that I knew how to throw but that were not my “favorite” discs. You know what I mean. Instead of throwing that favorite white
Leopard, I substituted a blue one, and then added another Leopard in case the
first one took a dive in the water.
Since my home course only has one hole that I have to throw
across water, I don’t keep a stock of floatable discs in my stash. And I don’t have a pole to carry with me to
retrieve a disc should I throw it in the water.
Most of the people at this event had poles for disc retrieval and one of
the women I played against had a whole bag of discs that floated. Smart strategy.
At the start of the round, on my very first hole, I did not
execute the throw well, and splash! My disc went right in the water. I recovered from that mistake, but when I
went to putt in the basket, my putter hit the rim, fell to the ground, and
rolled right in the water. What a
disappointment! That was the only putter
I had put in my bag! Fortunately, a
fellow player was able to retrieve my putter, and after that I was MUCH more
cautious with putting.
My first reaction was to say, “I can’t do this! I’ll end up losing all my discs by the time I’m
done.” Then I decided I should just get
tough, proceed to the next hole, and be more careful. After about three holes, I started gaining
some confidence, and began playing much better.
I began making par, and making much better disc placement. I scored many pars and bogeys, which was
comforting.
But then I got to hole six, again didn’t throw my best and
landed right in the middle of water.
Bye-bye purple Leopard! I marked
my lie, and threw to the basket, and heard the sweetest sound, “Cha-ching!” I got a circle 3! If it hadn’t been for the penalty stroke for
landing in the water, I’d have made a birdie on that hole.
On to the next hole, again over water (14 of the holes on
this course have water in play), but I just kept saying, “There is no
water. There is no water.” That seemed to help, and I made a great drive
that landed me well within the circle at the basket. Once again I heard, “Cha-ching!” when I
putted and wound up with my first-ever
birdie in competition!
More tomorrow……

Barnett Disc Golf Championships
Last month I competed in the Barnett Disc Golf
Championships. It was the first time I
actually competed in a tournament at Barnett Park. There is one hole that has terrified me for a
long time – hole #18 on the North Side Course.
It is an island hole, meaning that the basket is on an
island in the middle of the small lake in the park. People like my son, Danny, can throw from the
long pad to the island without a great deal of problem. I, on the other hand, can’t get there from
the long pad or even the short pad. I
knew that I would have to throw from the drop zone, and even getting on the
island from there can be risky. That
meant that I would risk losing some of my discs in the murky dirty water in
that lake.
About a month before the tournament I went there with Danny
for some expert advice on how to approach the hole. He told me to not even attempt the shot from
the short pad, but to proceed directly to the drop zone. That mean that I’d be immediately assessed a
penalty of two shots. Score, however,
was not an issue for me. Getting through
the tournament was.
During that practice session, my first attempt was not
successful, as I threw two high which caused my disc to dive down directly into
the water. My second attempt just barely
made the island. I tried two other
shots, and one did not make the island but was retrievable as it was very close
to the dry land. The fourth shot was
successful, and that gave me the confidence to know that I could compete in
this tournament.
The first day of competition I had another sort of obstacle
to overcome. Weather predictions called
for all-day showers which is nasty when one is trying to compete in a disc golf
tournament. Thankfully I had a rain
jacket which held tremendously to keep me dry.
Keeping the discs dry was another matter. My husband caddied for me and his main job
was to dry my discs and keep the ready for my next shot. I was so thankful that he was there to
help.
My results in that tournament were not great, but I did
shoot my highest ever rated round so I guess that’s something to
celebrate. It just didn’t seem
successful at the time.
The best part was that I learned that I CAN compete in a
rainy environment – which may help at Worlds.
Hopefully I won’t have too much rain to contend with, but we won’t know
the answer to that until we are actually competing!

One Day After Another
It’s been a while since I’ve written anything on this
blog. I haven’t given up in my quest to
prepare for the 2014 World Disc Golf Championships – but it seems that one day
of training blends into the next, into the next and a week goes by. Then one week looks so much like the last
week, and all of a sudden it has been several weeks since I’ve written
anything.
Since I started lifting weights in November, I’ve only
missed a small handful of nights when I wasn’t able to get to the Y for a
workout. Usually it’s because of a
conflict with my work schedule, or a night when I was not feeling up to par and
took a day off from training.
Those days have been fairly infrequent, however. I’ve been trying really hard to make sure
that I’m making every single day count especially now that half my training
time is over.
I miss being able to play some disc golf every night. But our local park where my “home” disc golf
course is located closes at 5 pm when it is not daylight saving time. I do my best to play on both Saturday and
Sunday (when the weather cooperates) but I think I have lost some of my
consistency. There have been some days
when I’ve played where the disc seems to go farther than ever but mostly I
think I’m just maintaining status quo right now.
I have definitely become stronger as I’m lifting more weight
than ever. I need to figure out how to
put that muscle into a coordinated approach and throw when I’m on the tee pad.

Slogging through the Winter Doldrums
When
I began this blog last September, I thought it would be interesting to
track my progress during the 300 days prior to the 2014 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf
World Championships.
I have found that
finding something to write about every day is hard. Who wants to hear about how much weight I’ve
lifted every day, or how may miles I’ve walked? I mean really, day after day, after day is just boring. I'm actually rather surprised that I continue to stick it out.
So
sometimes it seems that days go by before I post another message on my
blog. Today is one of those days.
Training
through the Christmas/New Year’s season was a new thing for me. While I continued to train every work day,
and played disc golf on the weekends, I also had the added detraction of all
the holiday food, Christmas cookies, and family gatherings with all sorts of
good food to deal with as I tried to
work toward my goal of being as fit as possible by July.
The
last few weeks have been a turn around.
I lost those few extra pounds that crept on the scale and am still
working hard to not waste a day of training.
The
last few times that I have played disc golf I’ve noticed that I actual can
throw farther than I could previously. I’ve
also noticed that my technique has suffered.
I guess muscle memory at my age needs more regular reminding of how I
should throw those hunks of plastic.
This
spring I’ve signed up for several tournaments.
This is a new thing for me. It
will be interesting to see how I do. I will definitely report the results here.

Women’s Global Event May 10, 2014
This year I’m going to participate in the Women’s Global
Disc Golf Event. On May 10th, women from
all around the world will play two rounds of disc golf at their local
participating Women's Global Event. Scores from the first two rounds of
each participating tournament will be submitted by the
individual tournament directors and rated by the PDGA.
These round ratings will be totaled and averaged to determine the
player's "Global Score."
For the rounds to qualify, the event must include two rounds
and have at least three ratings
propagators playing on
the same course layout each round for ratings to be calculated as accurately as
possible. The Global Scores will be updated throughout the day to
determine our Women’s Global Event Champions and the winner in each division
will receive a memorable trophy.
I’m so excited to be able to participate in this…..just hope
that Danny will be my caddy! J

Visitors have left, time to get serious again!
For several months now, I’ve been proud of my progress in my
quest to train for 300 days for the 2014 Disc Golf World Championships. Then Christmas and New Year’s hit. SCREEEEECH!
Did you hear me come to a screeching halt?
I valiantly tried to remain true to my training schedule,
but the truth is that things didn’t go as well as I hoped they would. I enjoyed the time with our kids during the
holidays, but now it’s time to get back to business.
Last weekend Danny competed in the “Throw Down the Mountain”
Disc Golf Tournament in Brooksville, FL.
What? You didn’t know there were
mountains in Florida?
The course near
Brooksville is as close as it gets. I’m
sure my friends from Colorado would scoff at the suggestion that there is a
mountain in Brooksville, so let’s just call it a really nice hill. He had a great time and ended up tying for
tenth place. If both rounds could have
been played from the long pads he probably would have done better.
While he was there, I went to my home course at Bill
Frederick Park and played the T2 course.
It is the more technical of the two course at BFP. The minute I stepped out of my car, I said in
my mind, “Follow through on every drive.
Follow through on every drive.” It must have worked because I did quite
well on most holes.
My goal for the next month is to focus on the elliptical for
my cardio workout. The first time I got
on that machine in November I did it for three minutes – BUT – I had to stop
and rest for 30 seconds after each minute.
Before Christmas I got up to 26 minutes nonstop – my goal is to be able
to work it nonstop for 60 minutes. I
have no idea how long it will take to be able to execute proper form for that
long. Hopefully by the end of January I’ll
be close.
Danny has me on a schedule of low reps and high weights for
the lifting part of my workout. My
preference is to do more reps at a lower weight, but I guess it’s the constant
variation in the routine that keeps me getting stronger.
Last weekend while I was throwing, I was noticing that I was
able to get the disc farther down the runway than usual, and that was a sign
that all the lifting I am doing is beginning to make a difference out on the
course. Hole five for instance has been a difficult hole for me, and resulted in me getting anywhere from a 7 to a 10 on it during competition. Sunday I made it in 5 throws. That was fun!
All this is to say, that I have my own mountain to continue to climb….even if I took a short holiday respite.

New Year’s Day Fun
New Year’s Day would not have been complete without a trip
to Bill Frederick Park for a round of disc golf.
Besides being a day off of work, it was the start of my
second hundred days of training in preparation for the 2014 World
Championships. It’s also supposed to be
a day to begin resolutions for the new year.
In my case, that began 100 days ago, when I committed to spending 300
days preparing for Worlds.
I played all of the Original Course (T-1) at the park that
is my home course. I was happy to see
that I haven’t totally forgotten how to play since so much of my training has
been focused on weight lifting and cardio.
So, in spite of the nasty weather, damp, cold, cloudy, and
with a slight drizzle of rain, I set out to play, and enjoyed every minute of
the outing.
Since it was practice, I felt no compulsion to play every
single throw but instead took several drives off the tee until I got that
perfect starting throw. I didn’t have to
rethrow eve
I enjoyed the practice immensely. Before leaving the house, I told my husband
that I was going to throw in the field since it was drizzling. But when I got to the park, I could resist
the temptation to just throw and have fun.
Last weekend I also played a round in the drizzling rain,
and by the time I was done, my shoes were soaked, my socks were filthy, and my
discs were coated with sand and dirt. I
took my time when I got home that day thoroughly clean all the discs and the
bag, so I wasn’t thrilled to have to do all that again yesterday. Thankfully, my discs stayed cleaner yesterday
and all I had to do was take them out of the bag and lay them out to thoroughly
dry.
Later today I will once again go to the gym, hit the
weights, put in the time on the elliptical machine – but I will remember what
it was like to throw the discs and will look forward to being able to do that
more often once daylight saving time returns.

100 Days are Gone!
Exactly one third of my training time is over. I’m not sure if I’m happy or sad about
that. I definitely know that I am not
yet ready to compete at Worlds.
Since Daylight Saving Time went off at the beginning of
November, I have been focusing on weight training and cardio during visits to
my local YMCA. It is too dark to play
disc golf after work, so this gives me something to do every day to stay busy
training.
Generally, if I have the chance, I play some disc golf on
the weekends, weather permitting. This
weekend was one of those times. Both
Saturday and Sunday we had rain showers, but I considered them practice for
what Worlds would be like if the day was rainy.
Let’s just say that I’m hoping that won’t be what happens in
July! Yikes! It added a few more steps to every throw when
I had to wipe each disc after it was thrown.
I did learn a few things during practice.
- First of all, I am getting stronger. My throws are starting to go farther. The remarkable thing about that is I’m not practicing the actual form of disc golf right now. I feel very “rusty” on the rare weekend day when I can play. Which brings me to point two:
- There is nothing like a lot of regular practice to get my body moving the way it needs to move for maximum affect. At my age, I need to continually work on form so that I don’t have to think about it so much during match play.
- My foot continues to ache as it has ever since playing in Charlotte over Thanksgiving. I think that it was so cold there that I never properly warmed up, and may have strained the tendons in my right foot.
- So point four is that I need to warm up my joints before starting to throw.
- Point five would be that I still need to lose more weight so that I can better tolerate all the walking/standing that is required during a round of golf.
One hundred days of training has gone by in a flash. In four months I return to the doctor to see
what my blood work shows. That will be a
good goal period to see how much more weight I can lose before the World
Championships.
In two months I will be
competing at Barnett Park in Orlando, where I will have to throw over open
water and make it on the island. Good
practice for throwing over water at Worlds.
In three months, I will be competing in the Sunshine State
Shootout. Another milestone as I will
not have much opportunity to practice on the actual course where this
competition will be held.
At the end of
May, the Orlando Open will be held at Bill Frederick Park. This will be a perfect chance to see how much
I have improved since last competing there at the first of September.
So lots of milestones are set in place. There is still a lot of training to do, but I
can see that by the time Worlds actually begins, I will be wishing that I had
even more time to prepare.

Out of Sorts
Last Saturday I played a round of disc golf in DeBary. My right foot still aches a bit from when I played in Charlotte over Thanksgiving. I'm not sure if it is tendonitis, or a slight sprain, or just aching bones. It was so cold in Charlotte, I believe that may have had something to do with it since I didn't really have much time to warm up before beginning to play.
But the really surprising thing was both last Saturday and the one before that, I played really lousy! I was so disappointed that all the weight training I'm doing has translated back into throwing farther.
Now, I must admit that I FELT stronger even if I didn't throw better. It seemed to take me a good 10 holes just to feel like I was in some sort of groove with my throws. Am I tired? Lacking practice? Forgetting basic form? Unable to move like a used to 6 weeks ago?
The truth is, probably all of the above is correct. I wish I was able to throw a bit every day, but I just can't do that right now. And with the holiday season upon us, it seems as though I have no time on the weekends either to play a couple rounds of disc golf. I'm lucky to get one in.
My foot is another situation altogether. I can't really put extended pressure on the foot as I'd have to during a long walk. It seems that I've been trying to redistribute my weight on my foot which has now made other parts of the foot ache. Most cardio involves pressure on the foot, so I'm a bit stuck right now.
I'm still going to train, lift weights, and will resume longer walks when my foot feels better. But for right now, I'm just out of sorts when it comes to the training.

Blood Work
Today I had to go in to the doctor to have blood drawn. One week from today I will get the
results. It will be interesting to see
if there have been any changes since last time I had blood drawn which was
August 8th of this year.
At that time I had been playing a LOT of disc golf – every night
if the weather held, because I was preparing for the Southeastern Amateur
Championships held over Labor Day at my home course in Orlando. It was the first time I’d seen my new doctor
after having had a kidney removed in April.
I had determined it was time for me to find a doctor who I was able to
communicate. Years of suffering with undiagnosed
kidney problems resulted in me losing my left kidney. It was clear I could not make that mistake
again. I only had one left.
My new doctor wanted to take me off of some of my
medications which she did after seeing the report on my blood work. Today’s blood tests will determine if
reducing my medications had any affect on my numbers – and if the change was
good or bad.
Next week Wednesday, I will go back in for a follow up with
the doctor. She will review the blood
results with me and we will see where we go from there.
Since August, I’ve begun full-blown training for 2014 worlds,
have been exercising like crazy, and have lost some weight. I’m very curious to see what affect that has
had on my numbers.
Stay tuned for the answer!

One Fourth of the Way is Complete!
Today is the 75th day of the 300 days set aside
to train for the 2014 PDGA Disc Golf Amateur World Championships! That is one fourth of the way there.
In the last 75 days, I’ve
- played disc golf 50 days
- lifted 195,255 pounds of weights in 28 days
- walked (apart from disc golf) 18 days
- had 3 days of putting practice
- successfully met diet goals 69 times
I miss being able to play disc golf every night as I can
do during daylight saving time. It has
been fun playing in some different courses on the weekends and especially while
we were in Charlotte last week. Tomorrow
I’m going to play handicaps at my home course for the first time in about a
month. It will be interesting to see how
rusty I am at playing those courses.
At any rate, tomorrow brings on my second quarter of
training. I’m ready to say, “Bring it
on!”

Rest in Peace, Ed
Shortly after I got home last night, we heard someone at the front door, and then the roar of a delivery truck pulling away from our home. While we didn’t hear the doorbell go off, we surmised that someone had delivered something for us.
Sure enough, there was a thin square box at the front
door. It was addressed to me, and when I
opened it, this is what I found in the box!
It was a “Lines of Headrick Memorial Freestyle Disc” with
the inscription, “Herein lie the ashes of “Steady” Ed, founding father of
Frisbee and the sport of Disc Golf. A
giant of a man who was many things to many people. Fly Free and rest in peace.”
It was “Steady” Ed’s wish that once he passed away his ashes
be incorporated into discs so that his soul could fly freely. “Steady” Ed loved
the Disc Golf and Frisbee® community and wished them to have his discs. Tiny
specks of ash can been seen in the disc when you shine a light through it. It is amazing to know that I have one of
these discs.
All proceeds from the sale of “Steady” Ed Memorial Discs go
to the nonprofit “Steady” Ed Memorial Fund, raising money to support “The Ed
Headrick Memorial Museum,” home to the Disc Golf Hall of Fame, showcasing many
historical items from the early days of our sport at the PDGA International
Disc Golf Center at Wildwood Park, Appling Georgia.
I received the disc since I was named a weekly winner of the
Disc Golf Association’s Spirit of the Game Contest. While I didn’t win the final prize, a MACH X
disc golf basket (which would have been awesome) my essay was one of the four
weekly winners, and I was honored to receive this disc.
My first thought was to take it to work where I have a
display of some of my competition discs, and that is where it is at the
moment.
However, since his wish was that he could continue to fly
freely down the disc course, I will have to honor that request and take it for
a spin every once in a while.
Rest in peace, to be sure, Ed!

Dry Creek Monroe, NC
Last week we visited our family in Charlotte, NC. We often try out some of the disc golf
courses there when we visit.
This year we discovered a new course in Monroe, NC, which is
just a few miles away from where our oldest son lives. About half of the holes were in wooded areas
and half had more open fairways. It’s
called Dry Creek Disc Golf Course.
I’ve only played the Charlotte courses when we visit around
Thanksgiving, so all I know about them is what they are like during the late
fall. There are a LOT of leaves on the
ground.
This year, there was a fairly
big rain just before we got there, so the leaves were quite matted down. Some years, they are all fluffy and crunchy
which is fun to walk through, but discs get lost so easily when there is six
inches of fallen leaves for them to disappear into.
On one hole, Danny got as close as a person can get to the basket on his drive, without making an ace! It was great to watch.
I think this is the kind of course we will enjoy playing
again the next time we go for a visit.

A Golden Day
On Friday after Thanksgiving, I had a chance to check something off my bucket list. Danny and I were able to play the Winthrop Gold course at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC. This course is the home to the United States Disc Golf Championships (USDGC) which is played each October featuring only about 150 of the best of the best disc golfers in the United States. It is one of the few tournaments that is televised.
Danny had a chance to experience the course when he played in the USDGC Performance Edition in 2011. It was a daunting experience to say the least, but he actually played quite well. Since he had played the course during that competition, he remembered well each hole. Some were slightly different when we were there after Thanksgiving, but mostly, the general layout was still in place.
Of course, none of the out-of-bounds ropes were up, but he told me where they had been and Danny played as if they were still in place. I just played the course from the short pads, as it stood -- that was challenging enough for me!
We took a few photos while on the course, and of course took some at the famous Bamboo Hole including a video of Danny making the shot through the garage door-sized opening.
Many of the views from the tee-box were exactly as they appeared on Disc Golf Planet, but the shot looked a lot tougher in real life than it did on the computer screen.
Having watched some videos, and having a DVD of the 2012 USDGC, it was so interesting to actually play the course. I'm going to replay that video now that I'm back home and can do it from the point of view of having been there! It was thrilling, and definitely a bucket list item.

Strains of Rocky Playing in my Mind….
For the past three weeks, I’ve been lifting weights for the
first time in my life. In a never-ending
quest to get stronger and have more endurance for the 2014 World Championships,
I have begun a weight training program.
Our son, Danny, who has been weight training since he was part of the
swim team in high school, has been my coach.
He designs my workouts and posts them to a Google Doc that we share. I do some training every night, varying the
type of workout from one day to the next.
Yesterday, Danny didn’t get a workout written before I got
to the gym. I felt as if I was
floundering a bit, but decided to just repeat what I had done the week
before. However, to my surprise, I noticed
that the workout was significantly easier than it had been the previous
week. Shock and surprise! I guess it’s starting to work.
This being Thanksgiving week and all, I’m expecting that my
workouts will need to be somewhat abbreviated later in the week, so tonight I’m
going back to the gym and work out some more.
Sometimes, by the night’s end, I hear the sounds of “Rocky”
playing in the mind as I feel as if I’m getting just a little stronger every
time I lift.
My gym is connected to an online system where you can go in
and look at the workouts you have completed, the amount of weight lifted, and
an evaluation of your form. It’s based
on whether you are lifting too fast or touching down on the weights in between
reps. They also put a little chart on
the sign in page indicating how much you have lifted in terms of how many “elephants”
you’ve done.
As of yesterday, I'm up to 14 elephants! Inconsequential data, I
realize, but a very visual representation of one’s progress.

I'm a Weekly Winner!
Just got word that I'm the third of four weekly winners of the Disc Golf Association Essay Contest to win a brand spanking new Mach X Disc Golf Basket. YIPPEE!!!!
After next week's winner is announced, there will be a determination who of the four weekly winners has won the basket. I'm still a bit shocked that I was chosen. Now, I'll just have to wait a couple more weeks to hear the answer.

It would be absolutely super to win this practice putting basket. AND, I definitely need the extra practice.
